Your credit rating

As part of the assessment process for a Tesco Credit Card, we consult a credit reference agency.

They hold different types of information, of which some will be relevant to your application. For instance, they hold details of who is on the electoral roll, court judgments, credit account performances, number of recent credit inquiries, and bankruptcies.

Tesco Personal Finance uses a company called Experian to check applicants' credit history. If you are turned down for credit, this is not a decision made by Experian, but by Tesco Personal Finance, based on our own criteria.

If you would like to see what information is held about you at the credit reference agency, you can do this by accessing their website www.experian.co.uk (new window). Please note a fee may be charged.

If you would like to know more about credit reference agencies, the Information Commissioner's Office publishes a booklet called 'Credit Explained' that will provide you with further information. It is available, free of charge, from any Citizens Advice Bureau.
