Obtaining a credit report

If you have applied for credit, you have the right to know which agency is dealing with your application.

The lender must provide you with the name and address of any credit company they approach for your credit history and they should do this without you having to make a specific request. If they not give you the details, you can complain to your local trading standards or consumer advice department.

You can even have a look at your credit history without actually taking out a loan. Simply contact the credit agencies to find out what information they hold on you by asking for a copy of your file. You can request your credit rating by post or online and you must provide the following:

  • £2 non-refundable fee
  • Rour name and address, including the postcode
  • Addresses that you have lived at during the past six years

if you apply by post send the request by recorded delivery.
