Top six reasons for a breakdown
Breaking down even when you have the best breakdown cover can be a major inconvenience.
Below are the top 6 reasons why cars breakdown and what you can do to help reduce the risk of it happening to you.
Flat battery
We have all left the lights on in the car at some point and come out to a flat battery in the morning. By keeping a set of jump lead cables in the boot of your car, you can easily find someone to help give you a jump-start.
Flat tyre or a blowout
Most flat tyres and blowouts are caused by wear and tear. Get into the habit of checking your tyre pressure when you fill up with petrol and check that your tyre tread is still within the legal limit.
Locked out
Unfortunately there is no simple solution to locking your keys in the car, if you lose your keys altogether, you will have to call in a vehicle locksmith.
Running on empty
Keep your eye on the fuel gauge and try not to run so low on petrol that the warning light goes on.
Faulty starter motor
Get your mechanic to check your starter motor when you take you car in for a service.
Spark plug failure
Get your spark plugs checked and/or replaced when you take your car in for a service.
