Driving lessons

If you are planning to get your driving licence then there are a couple of things to keep in mind to get you and your new licence on the road as soon as possible.

  • The first step toward getting your licence is to take the theory test. The test is made up of two parts; the multiple choice part and the hazard perception part. You need to pass both parts to before you can apply for your practical driving test.
  • 9 out of 10 people who pass their driver's test the first time had a driving instructor. If you decide to get yourself an instructor make sure that your instructor is approved and registered with the DSA and remember that only an approved driving instructor (ADI) is allowed to charge money for teaching you to drive.
  • Your practical test includes an eyesight check and if you fail this you will not be able to get a licence. The test requires you to read a number plate that is 20 metres away.
  • After the eyesight test you will be asked two vehicle safety check questions. You will then be examined on your general driving and on two reversing exercises. The reversing exercises will be chosen from reversing around a corner, turning in the road and reverse parking. You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise.

Good luck!
