Grey import parts - cheap or expensive
in the long run?
Grey imports refer to cars or parts which have been imported to the UK by someone other than the original manufacturer or distributor.
These tend to be much cheaper than similar European car parts and as such are very tempting for anyone who needs to replace parts. Grey imports are a widely debated issue in the motoring community. So you need a spare part, but the original is twice the price of the grey import, what do you do? It is not as straight forward a decision as you may think.

If you do buy the grey import part it will more than likely work perfectly for a while, but its durability will be questionable. That is no good to you if you have to replace it again six months or a year down the line. That would simply mean you have to fork out the same amount as you would've for the original part that would've had a better guarantee!
The old rule of thumb of when in doubt err on the side of caution holds true in the case of grey imports particularly if you are not a mechanical wizard.
