Tyre safety

Healthy tyres are vital to good car travel. There are some simple practices to make sure your tyres are in good shape.

Tyre Tread

This is what makes your tyre grip to the road and keeps you safe. This is important at all times and vital on wet or icy roads. If the tread has worn to 1/16th of an inch it is considered to be unsafe and needs replacing. Many tyres have built in tread wear indicators that become exposed when you need to replace your tyres.

Balance and Alignment

You need to balance the tyres on your car so that it doesn't vibrate when your tyre turns. You can have your tyres balanced at many different outlets across the country and the balance the tyres by putting weights on the wheel to counter balance heavy spots on the wheel-and-tyre assembly.

Wheel alignment adjusts the angles of the wheels so that they are positioned correctly relative to the car's frame. This alignment maximises the life of your tyres and prevents your car from pulling to the left or right when driving on a straight, level road. These adjustments require special equipment and should be performed by a qualified technician.
