How does Tesco Child Health Plan work?

• If your GP refers your child to a consultant or specialist to find out what's wrong, with the Tesco Child Health Plan, your child wouldn't have to wait for an appointment on the NHS
• If the consultant or specialist advises that further treatment is required, your child can go privately straight away if the treatment isn't available on the NHS within six weeks from when it should take place
• Private treatment could take place either in a private hospital or as a private patient in an NHS hospital to ensure your child is treated in an appropriate setting

What's not included?

If your child requires emergency or urgent treatment, the NHS will treat them. Tesco Child Health Plan is designed to cover your child for treatment that the NHS may not cover cover quickly - this may be in a private hospital or as a private patient in an NHS hospital.

As with all insurance policies, exclusions apply. The following is a summary of the main exclusions and limitations:

• Ongoing, recurrent or long term treatment of long term illnesses (known as chronic conditions)
• Pre-existing medical conditions that have occurred in the five years immediately before the policy being taken out. If the condition doesn't reoccur 2 years after joining, the condition will be covered by the policy.
• There is limited cover for follow up consultations and tests once a diagnosis has been made
• The 6 week wait applies to surgical procedures and is 6 weeks from the date the treatment should be undertaken
