Flood and storm advice
At Tesco we try to help where ever we can, so here are some pointers on what you can do before and after storms and floods to help protect your home and your possessions.
These are by no means the only things you can do in the event of flooding or storms but taking some basic preventative steps can save you lots in the long run. We all hope to never have the need to deal with floods but it is best to be prepared.
Before the floods - how to help prevent loss
- Where possible install all electrical goods and outlets outside roughly 4 feet from the ground.
- Make sure to keep your gutters and water run-off clear and unblocked.
- When the storm breaks, turn off all electrical items.
- Turn off central heating supply.
- If safe to do so get your vehicles to high ground.
- Sandbag your property if there is a high risk to flooding.
After the storms or floods
- Remove as much debris as you can without risking your own safety.
- Save items of value for insurance inspection.
- If you are stranded contact the emergency services immediately.
- If possible allow as much ventilation to the property as possible.
- Consider up to £500 of emergency repairs to mitigate future losses.
- Contact your insurance broker or insurance company immediately so they can help make sure your claim is dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible.
