What to do when your pet goes missing
More than 5,700 dogs and cats get lost or stolen in the UK every week, that is why it has become so important to insure your pet.
Pet insurance often provides you with a membership to the Missing Pets Bureau (MPB).
The MPB will issue you with a unique tag for your pet which helps to find your pet more quickly. Vital information is stored on the tag and as soon as you report your pet as missing the MPB can call on more than 12,000 UK pet protection organisations that will assist in recovering your missing pet.
The companies involved include major charities, animal rescue centres, animal wardens, the police and many vets countrywide. If anyone then finds your pet they can phone the MPB 24 hour emergency hotline.
When buying a pet insurance policy look for insurance that includes the MPB services. You can still register even if you don't have insurance. Visit the missing pets bureau website (new window) to learn more about their services.
