What to look for when getting a new pet
If you are thinking about getting a new pet, here are some guidelines to help you make your decision.
Cats have become the most popular pets in the UK and this is mostly due to our fast paced lifestyle. Fewer people have time for dogs, because they need a lot more attention than cats. There is a famous saying that goes "a dog is for life", not just for weekends.
Dogs will sleep on average for about 4 hours during the day and need a lot of stimulation and exercise in between naps, so if you are regularly out of the house for more than 4 hours it would be wiser to get a cat.
Pets need grooming so you should consider that when deciding which pet to get. If you will have a lot of time for grooming your pets then long haired cats or dogs will be fine, but if not then a short haired pet would be a better option.
You should also be aware that some dogs need more exercise than others. For example collies were historically bred as working dogs with extremely active minds and an energetic nature and need more exercise than a bulldog.
